Our local region provides an amazing range of events and activities for visitors and the community. 

From local markets and wine festivals to farm experiences, alpaca products, chocolates, cheese, honey, mushrooms, boutique liquors, family-friendly fairs, musicial concerts and cultural celebrations, there’s always something to look forward to. MCA organises a number of events described below. We obtain approvals and relevant insurances to ensure protection for our 3 part-time staff, volunteers and public liability.  We also have accumulated funds to self-insure our major annual event if for some reason it is cancelled, as commercial insurance cannot be obtained for this purpose.  

Murrumbateman Field Days

The Murrumbateman Field Days is the annual premier agricultural and family event for Murrumbateman and the Yass Valley. Each year, over 15,000 people and 300 exhibitors attend the 2 day event.

Exhibitors from around Australia showcase the best in the latest agricultural and landscaping services, equipment and machinery, livestock, traditional crafts, local produce, and attractions such as the snake man, a petting zoo, free face painting, jumping castles, kids rides, camel rides, pig races, gumboot throwing, performances by regional  musicians and entertainment artists. 

The Murrumbateman Field Days offers a family-friendly country experiences and is a fantastic weekend for the whole family. 

The event has a major positive economic impact for Yass Valley Shire with all profits going back into the community: 

  • generates some $7.4 million in economic activity in accommodation, food and agri-business sectors
  • $1.1 million is directly spent during the event on-site and in local towns
  • exhibitor surveys show that $47 million in sales are generated during the event.

The event is run by the Murrumbateman Community Association through a dedicated team of 3 part-time staff. The event relies upon 100+ community volunteers. Many food, sanitary, logistical and safety services are delivered by local community groups who directly benefit. Any profits go back into the community to deliver infrastructure, facilities and activities.

Murrumbateman Village Markets

Held on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, 9am to 1pm at the Village Green located within the Murrumbateman Recreation Ground you will experience a friendly market specialising in fresh foods and handicrafts with a local flavour.

The Village Green with its historic oak trees provides the perfect place for a relaxing morning browsing vibrant stalls, sampling produce, local crafts, supporting and chatting with local community groups. Kids enjoy a free jumping castle.

Murrumbateman Menshed

Open Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Membership is open to males 18 years or older. Learn crafts, woodwork, assist  community, help maintain community mower and tractor, work on the track for the Kub Kar challenge, and have great chats. A full tool shed awaits.

Murrumbateman History Group

Murrumbateman History Group formed in January 2014 aiming to locate, record and preserve local history. We are hoping a permanent site will become available to contain many historical objects and information.

Learn about local historical sites and and discover lots of interesting stories.  Take a walk in the village to see historical buildings and sites. We are organising exciting events as part of regional Heritage Festival and smaller events to showcase Murrumbateman’s heritage and history

We are working with Yass & District Historical Society Inc to collectively ensure local history is preserved.

Murrumbateman Christmas Carols and Twilight Market

Murrumbateman Christmas Carols combined with Twilight Markets are held during December on the Village Green at the Murrumbateman Recreation Ground. Hugely popular, attendances are growing every year. This is the Christmas event for local families.
