Yass Valley Council is monitoring the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation, especially in light of the strengthened restrictions announced by the Australian Government for non-essential venues.

At this stage, Council facilities – including the Library, Pool and Visitor Information Centre – remain open. The Library has cancelled all programs, and is currently looking at innovative ways to deliver some of its core service to the community for as long as possible. Council is discouraging the use of cash right across our services.

Customer Service remains open but Council is asking community members to please undertake Council business online, wherever possible, including the payment of rates and other invoices.

Ranger services are continuing as normal but the Animal Shelter is closed to animal surrenders at this time.

Council’s main priority is the continuation of essential services, which will include water, wastewater, waste collection, cemeteries and environmental health. Council is here to assist all local food premises navigate the new Government restrictions. If you need advisory or referral support in regards to safe food handling during this transition period, please don’t hesitate to contact Council on 6226 1477.

Councillors are meeting this afternoon for a briefing from Council Staff, and the community will be updated on the situation tomorrow. Communication with our community is also a main priority and we will endeavour to provide regular updates.
